Oil changed the world in the 1900s. It drove cars, it drove the whole chemical industry. Data, I look at it as the new oil. It’s going to change most industries across the board.

Laws are one of the the greatest human technologies ever created. They are used to govern human interactions and create rules of the game to balance competing interests. In that way laws offer us protection. This is all the more evident in our hyper connected world.

In our our hyper connected world there is constant tension and balancing and re-balancing of various interests like openness vs privacy or even privacy vs national security. The laws put in place world wide to deal with data protection reflect this tension.

The importance of data protection cannot be over stated.

Identify theft has become a major threat to both national and international security not to mention to individual freedom. Therefore, solutions for tackling identity theft in our hyper connected world is all the more important.

With a 107 countries having in place data protection laws the question is or better put the questions are:

  1. Are you protected?
  2. And how much?
