Its impact on national and global economies has brought to the fore the critical link between trade and health, and the relationship between the WHO and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Trade Organization<\/a>&nbsp;(WTO), as well as other trade-related organisations such as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unctad.org\/en\/Pages\/Home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United Nations Conference on Trade and Development<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipo.int\/portal\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Intellectual Property Organization<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spoiler alert trade policy and health policy are not always aligned. In fact, they are at times in conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Covid-19 economic impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Covid-19 has made people anxious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People are anxious about their personal health and the heath of their family and friends. However, much like the virus, the contagion of anxiety has spread to worry about the health of global and national economies. In fact, it gets right down to the personal &#8211; to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/03050629.2014.902816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pocketbook economics<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to an\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/en\/public-opinion-covid-19-outbreak\" target=\"_blank\">Ipsos poll\u00a0<\/a>of 10,000 adults in 12 countries, conducted 12\u201314 March suggested there is\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2020\/03\/covid-19-public-perception-economic-health-crisis-coronavirus-pandemic-ipsos\/\" target=\"_blank\">rising anxiety about personal financial exposure, including employment<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Most people see COVID-19 as an economic crisis first, health risk second <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tZoBJ99ga7\">https:\/\/t.co\/tZoBJ99ga7<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6KooXRgkQc\">pic.twitter.com\/6KooXRgkQc<\/a><\/p>&mdash; World Economic Forum (@wef) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wef\/status\/1240254136584736770?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 18, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2020\/03\/covid-19-public-perception-economic-health-crisis-coronavirus-pandemic-ipsos\/\" target=\"_blank\">M<\/a>Is it any wonder that people are seeing Covid-19 more as an economic crisis than a health one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Covid-19 is already taking a toll on the global economy.
