I recently had the privilege of taking part in a global value chain<\/a> workshop put on by Duke University’s Center on Globalization, Governance & Competitiveness<\/a> (Duke CGGC) in Jamaica<\/a> and here are my top five takeaways:<\/p>\n

  1. Human capital development (tooling, re-tooling and right tooling) is a critical component to global value chain upgrading.<\/li>\n
  2. Global value chains (GVC) are embedded in local economic, social and institutional dynamics.<\/li>\n
  3. To upgrade in \u00a0a GVC a country needs to improve coordination and collaboration between the public and private sector and invest in human capital.<\/li>\n
  4. In services \u00a0segment of \u00a0a global value chain human capital is \u00a0the key determinate of value creation, that is because human resources are the principle inputs.<\/li>\n
  5. Standards are the entry point to access the global economy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
