US: Stimulus Watch

By Ainsley Brown

Will the Obama administration’s stimulus plan, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, pass in the Senate on Tuesday?

It would seem that the plan will pass in the Senate given the protracted last minute deal between the Democratic lead majority and a few of the minority Republicans.

Unfortunately for the Obama administration, this potential victory could result in another protracted fight. The changes to the Bill that were necessary in order to reach this compromise in the Senate have not made the Democratic lead, House of Representatives very happy. The Bill passed in the House and the one that may pass in the Senate are substantially different.

President Obama will have to use all his resources (his high approval rating; reminding a few of his Democratic colleagues about their coat tail victories; his considerable charm and the bully pulpit) in order to resolve this conflict.
