Canada: Budget Past

By: Ainsley Brown

The budget of the Conservative government of Canada passed last night, with the support of the official opposition Liberal Party. The budget contained Canada’s economic recovery/stimulus plan.

The minority conservative government avoided losing power by making major concessions in order to gain Liberal support. They have even gone as far as to allow the official opposition to amend the budget, putting in a reporting clause. The government will have to report to Parliament regularly on the implementation and effectiveness of their recovery plan.

While I am by no means a supporter of the Conservative government, I say good luck, do what you promised and do not let your love of ideology and partisan politics get in the way of doing what’s right for Canada.
